Working at home is another difficult choice. It is often presented as an easy one, but anyone who has trod the path knows that it is in fact more difficult in many ways. Combining raising a family with a job in the home requires good time management, good prioritization, patience, hard work, and a fair bit of space to hold the kids and the business both! Working at home must be approached with logic and reason. Without it, you'll fall victim to scam after scam. You have to be prepared to work, hard, for a long time, and you must have the attitude of learning. Because anyone who operates a home business has embarked on a course that will require steady personal growth and consistent learning. Without it, success can never occur. It is a noble choice though, and when determination, creativity, and hard work combine in a successful endeavor, it is a very rewarding choice. I love that I can build a web page while my kids are in the room occupied with something else. If there is a problem, I am there to intervene, meet a need, or answer a question. I have chosen something that does not require that I track hours, and that allows me to be flexible about when I work and how. My business is woven through my day and intermingled with the requirements of homeschool, childrearing, and housekeeping (ok, so I'm not real good at housekeeping!). There is no other career in the world that would allow for that kind of flexibility. But I paid my dues. I have worked long and hard, and continue to do so. It is no walk in the park. If I stop working, my business grinds to a halt. I have to put in hours and hours before I see a return from a website, and hours and hours more before it becomes even partially self-sustaining. I do reap the rewards, but I EARN them.
