Uncommon Character

"Remember where you came from, where you are going,
and why you created the mess you got yourself into in the first place. You're going to die a horrible death, remember.
Its all in good training, and you'll enjoy it more
if you keep the facts in mind.
Take your dying with some seriousness, however.
Laughing on the way to your execution is not generally
understood by less advanced life forms
and they'll call you crazy."
(Richard Bach - Illusions)

Commitment

It has become a dirty word. Many people do not even know how to go about truly committing to anything. But the true impact of commitment is felt most deeply on relationships. The commitment of husband to wife, which can only happen if a marriage exists in the first place. The commitment of parent to child, which does not happen if parents accept children only conditionally at any stage of development. The commitment of friend to friend, teacher to student, merchant to customer, business owner to work.

Without the ability to determinedly work at the things to which we must commit in our lives, we fail to achieve those things which mean the most to us. We may even fail to discover those things which are the most important. Feelings of failure, abandonment, worthlessness, and hopelessness follow the person who has no knowledge of their own ability to endure.
